Message from the Chair
Mark Owens
Welcome to the online home of the Montgomery County Democratic Party. I hope you find our website helpful in understanding the functions of our local Party, as well as useful in letting us know how you’d like to help elect Democrats in 2008!
As we begin 2008, I’d like to reflect for a moment on the successes we had in my first year as Chairman of the Party. In 2007 we won some important races in Montgomery County. We can celebrate having two additional Democratic Mayor’s: Darreyl Davis in Trotwood, who defeated a two-term Republican Mayor, and Craig Roberts in New Lebanon. We also won and held on to many city council and other local offices throughout the County, including two Dayton City Commissioners: Matt Joseph and Dean Lovelace.
Now in 2008, our work is cut out for us. On a local level we have many Countywide Elected Officials who are on the ballot for the first time. Willis Blackshear our County Recorder, Carolyn Rice our new County Treasurer, Greg Brush our Clerk of Court, and of course two of our time tested veterans Judy Dodge and Debbie Lieberman will be defending their County Commission Seats. We’re also excited about two of Governor Strickland’s recent appointments to the bench of Common Pleas; Judge Frances McGee, and Judge Mary Wiseman, who are both highly qualified and respected members of our legal community and ready to run for a full term this year.
We also have an excellent opportunity to help win back the Ohio House of Representatives and give Governor Strickland the votes he needs to Turn Around Ohio! Please check out our “2008 Candidates” page for more information about our team.
Ohio will be a prime target for the Presidential campaigns this year. We as Democrats must stay together to ensure that we do everything possible to elect a Democrat to the White House. We have seen the results of 7 years of mismanagement, and people are counting on us to right the ship.
So once again welcome and thank you for checking out our home on the World Wide Web, and from the White House to the Court House, let’s elect Democrats in 2008!
